The Day the Earth Died by sanosoke The Day the Earth Died by sanosoke
well, it was a tough stretch, but we finally managed to get this finished in time for the contest.
Another collab between and myself
This was in the workings for months. So long that I don't even remember when we started. We had many plans that changed over and over again, and we ended up with this.
- Terragen work, and little touch-ups
- all the rest

As always, it's been amazing working with 19-10. You should all, of course, give him a watch and a fav if you like this piece, I promise you will thank me.

I have a pretty specific story in my mind about this piece, which I may submit sometime later, but I think it's more important if you all create that story for yourself.

I am very happy with this piece. and we tried many things in this that we haven't done before, especially conceptually, so I hope you like it, and more importantly, I hope you understand it.

t4v, as always
Sacha

well, maybe the planets have become attracted to the earth for some unnatural, supernatural, or other reason?

Whoa.... what's the function of the castle anyway??

:iconsanosoke:
sanosoke Featured By Owner Mar 13, 2009
I think the castle has a lot of functions. I would say it's up to you to figure out what it means.
For me, it is a refuge, or it is an unreachable escape, or it is an ideal to juxtapose the tragedy.

I think the castle makes more sense in our final version:

Astonishing. Everything is breathtaking although the grass seems to cut suddenly.

Other than that, great composition!

I agree with you about the grass, it could be a little smoother, however imagine that the liquid is the thickness of blood, and also think that the water is rising so quickly, that there isn't time for the grass to wash, or erode away.

Take a look at the final version of this:

I think it fixes that problem at least a little bit

There's so much to look at in this. The details are seemingly endless, and I find my eye hungry to devour every inch of this. Very brilliant and horrendous. I'm struck nearly dumb by some of the elements of this piece. Like death and life sharing the same breath. Wondrous, terrible, glorious, gruesome depiction.

Well then, your friend has a profound and stunning talent. Whatever efforts you put forth made it, in its completion, divine, however. So don't shadow your efforts. Remove your handiwork, and I don't doubt something vital would be missing.
