Inevitable by sanosoke Inevitable by sanosoke
Well, I think this might be my best work. At least it's the piece I've spent the longest amount of time on, and maybe put the most effort into. At first glance, it's a remake of my older piece "Wonderful", but it's not intended as a remake, Just liked the point of view and terrain.

I am submitting this for 's terragen contest: [link]
Terrain is WM5 by TheElement (thank you) and a very special thanks to Stijn, AKA 19-10 who helped me an incredible amount with my postworking skills, most of which I learned on this piece.
Also, thank you to Tiwiwine for rendering the strata parts for me, as alas, TGmac cannot do Strata.

Ok, technical jargon:
4 terragen renders. two of them taking 30-40 hours each, blended in Photoshop
About 7 hours to set up the scene in TG
I spent a lot of the last 3 days postworking this baby. Lots of stock, a fair amount of brushing, all new techniques learned.
Original renders 6400x4800 on a 2049^2 terrain

I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for any comments and votes you give me.
Also, any advice you could give would be great, because I am still willing to go back and tweak some things.
Sacha

your work always amazes me...I don't think I would have the patience to pull something like this off even if I did have as much control of Terragen as you do.

Great, great work...unfortunate about not being able to have this as a print though..

It's really just patience. Not too much control here. Most of the stuff in Inevitable was a mixture of PW and luck. Lots of brushing going on, although the patience for rendering was trying, but nothing a good nights sleep and a few beers can't fix. It's reall fun to get an idea into your head and just go for it, and see it come to life.
I think you can do iit

Sorry man. Inevitable was only created at a smallish size. I was made just for this contest, and was completely new in terms of postwork. I had never done anything like it before, so I worked small so that I could find good stock images. I wish I could make it a print, but alas, I cannot. maybe I will try, at some time, to remake it (something similar) for a print.
thanks for the nice thought, and if you want any of my other works as a print, I might be able to make that happen.

I thought I commented on this before... welll, I'll remedy that now. This has to be your best render to date, the execution and texturing is excellent. The lighting is well done and the additions work with it. I think that it is very safe to say that this is the contest winner. Excellent piece.

very interesting
grea lighitng and very well rendered
i just dont like how the front right isnt like the rest of the right side with all the green.. i guess maybe its creeping in. but then you might want to have like wind from the cold side
other than that very well done with a very nice juxtaposition

omg, this is so awesome. It's like the winter part is taking over the green part. The birds are fleeing from the cold. "the tree on the left side of the ravine in the snow has no leaves and the one just across from it in the grass still has it's leaves" that really gives a good contrast between the winter and green parts. You can still see some blue in the sky over at the right, but the storm is taking it over. You did great work on the clouds, they've got a lot of depth. Also, I love those rays. This is a beautiful picture and it could very well be one of your best if not the best.
:D
Good luck with the contest!
